Akashi 'Black' is the entry blended whisky from Eigashima's White Oak Distillery in Akashi, Hyogo prefecture, Japan's oldest licensed whisky distillery (license granted 1919). A blend of malt and grain whiskies aged on average around three to four years in ex-bourbon casks with an ex-sherry cask finish, bottled at 40% and non-chill filtered. Soft and approachable, it is a great-value introduction to the Japanese whisky category.

Tasting notes

Medium gold with copper hints. Soft cinnamon, nutmeg and honeysuckle aromas with black cherry, toffee and oak; palate of butterscotch, honey, toasted oat, vanilla and orange zest leading to a long, gently spiced malty finish.

How to use

Best neat at 18-20C or with a splash of water; also excellent in a Japanese highball.
